You can use the BART system and it stops right near the airport. There is also an AirBart shuttle that will take you all the way to the airport and it runs every 15 minutes. Mineta San Jose International Airport is 45 minutes at least from downtown San Francisco. It's home to discount airline Southwest, and it's in the heart of Silicon Valley. This airport is a great option for business travelers, but is further away from the city for visitors.
